Egypt is a great place to visit, especially in the summer, but while there are many things that you can’t control about going on holiday, such as the weather and the people around you, there are ways that you can keep yourself, your travel companions and your belongings safe whilst you’re away. Now Egypt isn’t a particularly dangerous country, but there’s no point in opening yourself up to danger whilst you’re away. So if you don’t want something that could have been prevented ruining your holiday, here are a few tips that could help you stay safe and happy in Egypt.
Keep Your Belongings Safe
It goes without saying that you need to keep your belongings, such as your bag, wallet, loose change, credit cards and passports completely safe while you’re away, as these are very attractive items for any thief to sell. Keep these items close to you at all times, make sure the bag you carry with you is securely shut and don’t keep your PIN or any other important account information with your credit cards, as this will make it much easier for people to use your cards without your consent. If you have to leave valuables at the hotel, ask if there is a special safe or locker room where you can keep your belongings for a short period of time, many hotels have safes, so just ask at reception.
Make Copies of Documents
Many people find it useful to carry copies of their flight itineraries or hotel bookings with them in case something should go wrong whilst they’re on holiday. While this is a good idea, it’s also worth photocopying your passport, credit cards and any other documents you may have with you, as these copies could prove invaluable if the originals are lost or stolen.
Use Your Head
Wondering off alone and going down a dark alleyway late at night are not things you would usually do at home, so why would you do them on holiday? Travel with other people whenever possible and if you must go somewhere alone, make sure you inform your travelling companions or the hotel staff of your destination.
Going on holiday to Egypt is an exciting and rewarding experience, but be sensible and make sure that you keep yourself safe whilst there.
