Holidays in Sharm el Sheikh
Egypt might be known for its pyramids and bazaars, but there’s far more to the country than that. Almost the complete opposite of the bustle of Cairo is the relaxing resort of Sharm el Sheikh, one of several prime resorts located on the coast of the Sinai peninsula. Sharm is Egypt’s fastest-growing resort town thanks to tourists being drawn from all over Europe by its highly competitive prices. Thanks to the investment from tourism, the resort has gone from a sleepy fishing village to being a major hub, full of lavish international hotels, clubs, casinos and golf courses. Beyond that, however, what holidays to Sharm el-Sheikh are really famous is its scuba diving and snorkelling. Tourists have access to 250 plus reefs in the surrounding coast, which teem with over a thousand different kinds of fish.
In addition to the mysteries of the deep, there tours around the local desert on camelback, which see holidaymakers take in local historical sites before stopping for a moonlit banquet. Close to the resort is the more laidback Na’ama beach, with its private beaches and chilled-out, sheesha-fueled nightlife. The bay area of Sharm el Sheikh is known as Sharm el Maya – surrounded by dozens of prime fishing spots nearby – you can even join local fishermen for a pleasure cruise or rent your own cheaply, and it’s one of the cheapest places in the world learn how to scuba dive. A holiday in Sharm el Sheikh is truly a new side to Egypt that needs to be experienced.
